Conventions of a Documentary – What makes a documentary?
- A common convention in a documentary is having a voiceover. The voiceover is a commentator who isn’t seen and tells the story during the documentary. A voiceover will often been used in an expository documentary.
- Non-fictional footage is essential in a documentary as it is meant to show a sense of reality. In a documentary you wouldn’t expect to see actors, in a documentary everything has to be natural.
- Archive footage is used to add additional information from past events without the need of filming as the footage isn’t yours.
